Ole Christian Veiby looks forward to participating at Rally Argentina for the first time in his career. “It will be really exciting to experience another brand new WRC round” he said.
Now that the 21-year-old gets Rally Argentina under his belt, the WRC rounds in Mexico and Australia are the only ones he has not competed at. To build experience is the most important factor at the upcoming weekend’s event.
“I’m running as a privateer this time and I won’t compete for points in the WRC 2. That means that the strategy is completely up to me. But it will be very important to finish the rally and get as much experience as possible” said Ole, who’s car is run by Wevers with support from Skoda Motorsport.
Together with his co-driver Stig Rune Skjærmoen, he has had a test day to prepare for the competition that kicks off for real on Friday. This is also Ole’s 29th WRC round in his career and the 20th with Stig Rune in the co-driver’s seat.
“I’ve driven rallycross in Argentina, but never rally. This event is a bit different than what we’re used to. The gravel roads are quite special and on the second pass of the stages there will be pretty rough conditions. Rocks that weren’t there before might all of a sudden appear. To put it simple – we need to really use our eyes. The cars can handle a lot, but not everything” explained Ole.
Although he won’t fight for WRC 2 points this time, Ole still wants to offer his main competitors a proper fight.
“Our wish is obviously to get a good fight with Pontus (Tidemand), who I think is the strongest driver at this rally. But like I said, the most crucial thing for us is to finish the event” he pointed out.
Argentina is five hours behind central European time, but the time difference doesn’t bother the Skoda driver.
“We got a lot of experience with big time differences when we did the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship last year and I think we handle it well. There’s never been a problem with that” said Ole.
